The ants in our garden have a field day: a dead mouse. How the mouse ended up dead just on this spot is unclear.
It could have been dropped out of the claws of a hawk. Hawks frequently hunt in this area.
It could also have been laid down there by one of the many cats that pester the garden and the roof of the house. As a gift for us. Cats are known to do this, to propitiate humans. Unfortunately, this is not going to work for us.
Of course, it’s also possible the mouse is old and just died of heart failure or arteriosclerosis or any other disease mice are known for. I imagine that in a couple of days the entire carcass will be gone.
