In Amsterdam, they complain about the roller suitcases that the tourists drag along and that make a lot of noise. You can hear that sound here too. At least twice a day. Not made by tourists but by the school kids.
I am happy they do. Compared to the way-too-heavy schoolbag I used to carry around, the cases are a lot better for the vulnerable children’s back.
I remember from my own school days that being cool was the main concern and more important than any worry about health or being sensible. The most popular kid set the standard.
That probably still is the case. We pass a lot of schools on our daily walks and can see that being half-naked despite the cold and smoking despite the health danger is widespread among the higher graders.
